Ann Coulter decided she needed to be relevant again
While speaking on right-wing radio host Lars Larson’s show, political commentator Ann Coulter responded to President Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to the border, suggesting that he go one step further and actually order them to shoot an immigrant.
Specifically, Coulter had this to say:
“If I were an illegal–I mean, unless they’re going to shoot one and send a message to the rest, as Voltaire’s line in Candide is–‘We hang one to encourage the others’–if you shoot one to encourage the others, maybe they’ll learn, but otherwise, we’ll see, we’ll see.”
There are conservatives in this country that will never be satisfied with the already deranged direction the Republican Party is taking. Being anti-immigrant, anti-woman, anti-science, and anti-Obama isn’t enough for these people. They want harsher stances adapted: stances advocated by deplorables like Ted Nugent, Joe Arpaio, and John Bolton. They want blood.
Coulter is one of those individuals. For those that do not know, she first got famous for going further right on the political spectrum than Newt Gingrich against Bill Clinton and his administration. Since then, she has gained a reputation as an attention seeking rabble rouser, and has continued to maintain her relevance past the time most media is willing to take her seriously by advocating for disgusting policies, particularly anything against immigrants. She is so adamant against people coming into the country that she even reportedly berated Trump while privately meeting him in July 2017 for not taking an eviler stance.
Considering Trump garnered support in his base by promising the construction of a border wall and labeling most Mexican immigrants “rapists” and “murderers,” it goes without saying that Coulter is psychotic to think he has not been anti-immigrant enough. In fact, not only have Federal courts been forced to waste time looking over Trump’s anti-Muslim immigrant (or even travel) ban, but the country as a whole has had to deal with the radicalization of ICE< the Immigration and Customs Enforcement division.
Local Democratic leaders like Governor Jerry Brown and Mayor Libby Schaaf have tried their best to deter his actions through pardons and warnings, but there is only so much anyone can do at the state level. Getting a Democratic majority in both Houses of Congress during this year’s midterm elections is integral to not just fighting against Trump’s policies but also fighting against Republican hate spearheaded by attention-seeking figures like Ann Coulter.
