Bolton’s purge is getting scary
On Tuesday, April 10, I reported on a shocking aftereffect of John Bolton’s ascension to National Security Advisor: the departure of Homeland Security Advisor Tom Bossert. While no connection was officially stated, people close to the case attributed Bossert’s premature leaving to Bolton’s decision to bring in his own team. That is to say, the Trump Administration is revamping integral aspects of its national security apparatus one year into its inception.
The media now has further proof that a purge is indeed happening at the top clearance level as another member has resigned. Her name is Nadia Schadlow, and in December 2017 she was appointed to be the Deputy National Security Advisor by then National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster.
According to CNN’s sources, Schadlow’s inevitable resignation was long in the making due to her close working relationship with McMaster. As Bolton presumably wants more loyalists who will act as “yes men” to his and Trump’s wishes, it unfortunately makes sense that he wants staffers associated with McMaster to go. Based on private sources and reports, McMaster had been at odds with Trump over various undisclosed political issues.
White House spokesman Raj Shah gave a public statement on Schadlow’s departure:
“The administration thanks Dr. Schadlow for her service and leadership in crafting the President’s ‘America First’ national security strategy. The strategy has set a strong foundation going forward for protecting the homeland, promoting American prosperity, preserving peace through strength and advancing American influence. We wish Nadia and her family the best.”
Schadlow, in turn, has been diplomatic about the situation, giving her own positive outlook on the situation in her resignation letter to Trump:
“Together, we captured your vision for a strong and confident America and developed your America First National Security Strategy — which turned that vision into a strategic direction for your administration. And I am particularly proud that you were able to submit your NSS to Congress earlier than any previous administration…on time and under budget!”
As I have detailed before, Bolton is a nationalist with disturbing warmonger views despite being a Vietnam draft dodger. If he really believes that these previously-qualified individuals are not up to fulfilling his political proposals, then it paints a very scary picture of what he plans to do.
