Turns out Elaine Chao is a perfect fit in the Trump Administration
Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao has been caught on video discussing her father’s, James Chao, trade business with the Department of Transportation (DoT) flag behind them.
The footage comes from an interview by New China Press where the Chaos were talking about the success of the family company, Foremost Group, which handles shipping between New York and parts of Asia. While Elaine Chao is not personally involved in the company’s dealings, government ethics officials have stated that the presence of the DoT flag violates regulations that prevent federal employees from using their office to financially benefit themselves, friends and/or family.
Experts say that it sends a message to companies and individuals in China that Foremost Group has top connections in the U.S. Government: a facet made particularly lucrative in contemporary times by President Trump’s ongoing trade war with China.
Despite this, a spokesperson for Chao insisted that there was no controversy:
“There is nothing inappropriate with a Cabinet member appearing with her father or other family members. The secretary’s appearances are intended to share an inspirational story about immigrants from a minority community who have become successful in our country.”

Members of Trump’s Cabinet have been the subject of intense media scrutiny for a number of reasons: they have shown to be either unqualified for their position, such as Rick Perry being Secretary of Energy while denying the existence of man-made climate change, hold disgusting views that would impede their work in said position, such as Mike Pompeo being appointed Secretary of State despite having made anti-gay and anti-Muslim comments, or outright bribed their way to their job, such as Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who donated tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to the same Republican senators that conveniently voted for her.
Chao was one of the few officials who was confirmed by the Senate near unanimously, with 93 voting in favor, six voting against, and Mitch McConnell abstaining. The six who who tried to prevent her ascension include the most progressive members of the Senate (Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Jeff Merkley, and Kirsten Gillibrand), as well as popular politicians Cory Booker and Chuck Schumer.
Evidently, the Democrats who thought she would be good failed to look into her background, where she has not only been involved in Republican Administrations since the Reagan presidency, but also has familial dealings with the Chinese.
