President Trump likes to throw the word “disgrace” around. He’s used it frequently when he has referred to the investigation being conducted on him and the policies of his predecessors. But nothing is more of a disgrace than his presence at the Arlington National Cemetary.
The President’s dishonor of America’s fallen soldiers was clear with a tweet, where he congratulated himself for Memorial Day. In his tweet, he said that those fallen would be proud of the country today, crediting himself for improvements on the economy.
Happy Memorial Day! Those who died for our great country would be very happy and proud at how well our country is doing today. Best economy in decades, lowest unemployment numbers for Blacks and Hispanics EVER (& women in 18years), rebuilding our Military and so much more. Nice!

Donald Trump’s assault on veterans
Raw Story summed up the 10 times that Donald Trump — before and after being president, has attacked and lied to veterans. As with everything that Trump does, his offenses have been bombastic , the equivalent of spitting in the face of our soldiers and on our flag.
The attacks have been public, targeting Gold Star families like the Khans and the Johnsons. The Right’s hatred toward’s Muslims is widely known. Many conservative leaders have boldly targeted Muslims and their communities as terrorists. Right wing groups have even protested and targeted mosques.
Therefore, it was very fitting for Trump to attack the Muslim-American Khans after they called him out from the stage of the Democratic National Convention in 2016. The Khans are the Pakistani-American parents of US Army Captain Humayun Khan who was killed in 2004 during the Iraq War.

Sgt. La David Johnson was killed during Trump’s presidency in Niger. The President had to make a condolence call to the family. The debate at the time was whether he should make that kind of call or not. He falsely claimed that President Obama never made those calls to Gold Star families, another lie.
When he did make the call to La David’s widow, the family’s Congresswoman was present. That Rep Frederica Wilson (D-Miami) later revealed how the President fumbled his way through the call. She was quickly attacked by the White House for it, creating fiction about her background to put her in a bad light. They’ve never apologized for it either.
Trump using veterans for his own gain
The article refers to two different times when the President has promised to donate money to veteran programs or veterans themselves. During his campaign in 2016, the candidate claimed that he had raised $6 million dollars for veterans during an event in Des Moines. The Washington Post revealed in their reporting this was untrue. He also claimed that he would donate $1 million to a veterans group but The Post found this to also be a lie.
In another case after Army Sgt. Dillon Baldridge was killed in Afghanistan, the President promised the family that he would personally write them a $25,000 dollar check. His father, Chris Baldridge said four months later that he wished he has recorded the call to prove he made that promise. The check had yet to arrive. President Trump eventually ended up sending the money only after the lies were revealed.
His earliest offense to the nation was with him dodging the draft. He has repeatedly claimed to have bonespurs to keep from going to Vietnam. During the 2016 election, Donald Trump put an end to the claims saying instead that the bonespurs were minor. He decided instead to go with the claim that he had a very high lottery number for the draft.
As president, his White House physician gave him a clean bill of health. The President would later nominate him as his pick to head the Office of Veteran Affairs. This physician never responded to the status of this spurs, a likely effort to draw some distance from the claim.
Knowing what we know now, that this president lies about everything, plowing through the facts, we know with certainty that Trump doesn’t care about veterans. Even worse is that he still has enough supporters to give the appearance that he does. Especially those surrouding him at the service. It is in this case then that we don’t even believe in our own veterans.
