Twitter’s #TrumpGroceryStores Is The Best Hashtag You’ll See This Week!
Donald Trump tried to rile up his base Tuesday night by bringing up one of the finest select cuts of red meat a rabid conservative could desire: Voter ID. Nevermind the fact that voter fraud has been widely proven to be a non-existent threat to our democracy (as opposed to, oh, Russian interference), the simple knowledge that additional hurdles to voting always suppresses minority turnout is enough to make the faux concern the Holy Grail of Republican politics. But the president’s message was once again buried in an outlandish lie intended to bolster his argument when he said “You know, if you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card. You need ID.”
And unto us, a hashtag was born.
Despite White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ attempts to redefine Trump’s statement, #TrumpGroceryStores began trending on Twitter. The creativity of social media users continues to be one of the very few bright spots in this Long Hot Dystopian Summer. Among the best of the bunch:
